"We are writing to let you know about the Call for Evidence for the development of a new national Carers Strategy. The NNPCF Steering Group has prioritised this strategy as we are likely to be one of the main groups that will be focussed on the needs of Parent Carers as carers. You may recall that during the passage of the Children and Families Act through Parliament, the NNPCF was instrumental in having the legislation for Parent Carers strengthened. Parent Carers span the Children and Families Act (when our children and young people are 18 and under) and the Care Act (when our young people are over 18). We have spoken about this to Department of Health (DH) who are leading on the new Carers Strategy. We have agreed that it is really important, given the legal framework, to have a joined up response from DH and Department for Education in the new Carers Strategy for Parent Carers".
