Changes to School Nursing Services
Change of provider of the School Health Service From January 2015, there will be a change in the provider of the School Health Service (formerly known as School Nursing). The new service will be provided by Kent Community Health NHS Trust (KCHT).
The School Nursing Service was reviewed in 2013 and there was an identified need for change to the existing service. A procurement exercise was carried out to identify the most appropriate provider and the contract was won by Kent Community Health NHS Trust (KCHT). This means that East Sussex Healthcare Trust (ESHT) will no longer be running the School Health Service.
KCHT have been working closely with ESHT and commissioners at East Sussex County Council to ensure that there is no disruption to parents, children and staff. Existing staff will be transferred over to KCHT so local staff will continue to provide a local service to families in East Sussex.
There will be changes to the service, with an increased commitment to Public Health and Early Intervention work. Safeguarding will still be a large element of the work of the school nurses.
The School Health Service will lead and deliver the Healthy Child Programme and public health programmes for all children and young people aged 5-19, following on smoothly from health visitors who provide services covering pregnancy and the first five years of life. The Service includes a Further Education Health Service for 16-19 year olds. KCHT will also be taking over responsibility for the Immunisation Service.

Transforming community services
The High Weald, Lewes, and Havens CCG currently commissions a wide range of community based services for local patients including district nursing, diagnostics services, intermediate care beds and minor injuries units. As commissioners we are keen to transform community services and consider new ways of meeting the specific health needs of patients from across High Weald, Lewes and the Havens.
